15th Annual Technology Executive Network (TEN) Conference – Thursday, May 15, 2014

The 15th Annual TEN Conference on Thursday, May 15th was held at Cantigny lin Wheaton. This “gift to the people of Illinois” by the McCormick Foundation, is very popular with the TEN Members as evidenced that this was the third time in the last four years we held the conference at Cantigny!

Retired U.S. Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler was the Keynote Speaker and the conference theme was: The Courage to Take Command – Leadership During Change & Amidst Chaos

Colonel Jill’s brought tremendous energy to the session. It was very evident that she is an award-winning speaker and storyteller, as she enthralled the audience while sharing concrete information on what a leader must be, know and do during times of change and chaos.

After the keynote, ‘Colonel Jill’ lead us through an interactive workshop titled: Head, Hands, Heart & Humor! Attendees also shared their top lessons learned with the rest of the group so everyone learned. .

Here’s a sample of what the TEN Members mentioned as gems and key takeaways:

  • Fake it ‘till you make it!
  • Times are tough … I am tougher
  • Get out of your office (like the LEAN concept of a Gemba walk)
  • Right person. Right place. Right time.
  • Seize the opportunity … Stop the stupid … Always answer “Yes, and …”
  • Strengths Based Leadership (Tom Rath)
  • Team exercise with progressively shorter timelines to get a solution
  • Hire to your weaknesses
  • Peer AND executive recognition … Have executives acknowledge teams work
